Fuel prices fell in four metro cities on Monday, with petrol selling at Rs 75.69 per litre and diesel at Rs 66.98 per litre in Mumbai.
The petrol prices were cut by 20 paise in four cities while the diesel prices reduced between 18 and 19 paise. Fuel prices fell by around 40 paise over the weekend.
According to the Indian Oil Corp data, petrol prices in Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai were at Rs 72.16 per litre, Rs 70.07 per litre and Rs 72.70 per litre, respectively, while diesel stood at Rs 65.77 a litre in Kolkata, Rs 64.01 a litre in Delhi and Rs 67.58 a litre in Chennai.
As per the country's dynamic pricing mechanism, the domestic fuel prices depend upon international fuel prices on a 15-day average and the value of the rupee.
Retail pump price is calculated after adding central excise duty, dealers commission and value-added tax (VAT) to the base price.
The slide in domestic fuel prices comes following a recent decline in global crude due to oversupply concerns. Oil prices dipped on Monday ahead of the Christmas holiday break, adding to last week’s steep losses on concerns about a global oversupply.
International benchmark Brent crude futures fell 27 cents, or 0.5 percent, to $53.55 a barrel at 0106 GMT. Brent touched $52.79 on Friday, its lowest since September 2017.
