Polished diamond export from India to Japan decreased 30% in January |
SURAT : While the export of polished diamonds from India to US have plummeted this year, Japan is also showing the negative signs as well.
Japan's polished diamond imports plummeted 20.7 percent year on year to $58.221 million in January, according to data published by Momozawa & Co., based upon information obtained from the country's Customs Bureau at the Ministry of Finance.
By volume, the imports decreased 40 percent to 137,537 carats as the average price improved 31.8 percent to $423 per carat.
However, polished imports from India contracted 30.4 percent to $28.1 million. India is the biggest exporter of polished diamonds to Japan with an average monthly export totaling at $35 million.
Meanwhile, imports from Belgium fell 29 percent to $7.9 million. However, polished imports from Hong Kong rose 14.3 percent to $5.5 million and imports from Israel improved 18.2 percent to $8.3 million.
