Indian rupee down 6 paise at 67.25 against US dollar in early trade |
Indian rupee opened 3 paise down to trade at 67.21 against the US dollar on Thursday morning following increased demand for the American currency from importers and banks and its performance against other Asian currencies. At 9.55 am, the local currency was trading 6 paise down at 67.25 against US dollar.
Domestic equity markets opened on cautious note on Thursday and didn’t affect the rupee’s movement. At 9.45 am, Sensex was trading 11.64 points down at 27,904.25, while NSE Nifty was trading 3.60 points up at 8,569.45.
On Wednesday, Indian rupee ended 10 paise down to 67.19 against dollar.
Dollar’s strong performance also contributed to rupee’s weakness with the American currency rising 0.2 per cent to 107.08 yen after rising as high as 107.460 earlier, its highest since June 7 and returning to levels seen before markets were roiled by Britain’s vote last month to exit the European Union.
