AGARTALA: The maiden shipment of wheat from Tripura was exported to Bangladesh through Agartala Integrated Check Post on Sunday.
The consignment of 13,450 MT wheat has been exported to Bangladesh in 21,289 bags by 87 trucks which was transported from Uttar Pradesh by Indian Railway.
President of Agartala import export traders association, Sushanta Bhowmik said, “India has always exported wheat through West Bengal border, covering a long road in both India and Bangladesh. However, after beginning export through Agartala land port, the transportation cost and journey time has been marginally reduced.”
Now, within four hours, the consignments are being offloaded in the warehouse of Bangladesh, which earlier used to take at least 12 hours, he said, adding that five more shipments are scheduled to be exported this month through Agartala land port.
