PANAJI: The government on Saturday announced its decision to initiate inquiry into SEZ land scam as well as illegal mining, which had taken place during the regime of the erstwhile Congress regime, while continuing with the probe into the Louis Berger corruption scandal.
Addressing the state-level meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party workers at Porvorim, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the bribe case related to the water supply and sewerage project, which is being investigated by the Crime Branch of Goa
police, is moving in the right direction, and if required, would be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
He also stated that all those who are involved in the case would be arrested shortly.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who also attended the meeting, said that all the accused in the Louis Berger corruption case would be sent to the Colvale jail.
Parrikar also suggested that the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna of the central government, which offers accident insurance to beneficiaries, should be immediately implemented in Goa. Stating that the entire state would be covered under this scheme, he indicated at the implementation of the scheme in Goa by the month end.
Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza, state BJP president Vinay Tendulkar and national president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, Vijaya Rahatkar also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the state unit of the Aam Aadmi Party, held dharna outside the venue of the BJP meeting, protesting against the decision of the government to pardon the jailed Nuvem legislator Francisco Xavier ‘Mickky’ Pacheco, who is presently undergoing six-month jail term.
