Subject: Haryana To Import Varieties Of Citrus Fruits,Mango From Israel
The Haryana government today said it will expand the base of Indo-Israel cooperation and import those varieties of citrus fruits from the country that are suitable for the state and also boost stagnant yield of mango fruit with the help of Israeli experts. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who was accompanied by Israeli experts, visited orchards of citrus fruits, mango and olive in Israel today, a state government release said here. The Chief Minister, who is currently on a visit to Israel, visited citrus orchard at Kibbutz Ramat in the country along with Auerbach Yossef, a citrus expert and was impressed to see the high yielding varieties, the release said. The citrus orchard having an area of 100 hectares grows different varieties and is getting highest yield of 120 tonne per hectare (ha), with average yield of 80 tonne per ha (in India it is 10-16 tonne per ha) with an income of USD 40,000 per hectare. The Chief Minister was informed that the reason for higher yield was good high yielding varieties and management practices. Hooda asked Haryana's Director General Horticulture, Satyavir Singh, who is accompanying him, to import all such varieties that are suitable for Haryana. The Chief Minister also visited Citrus Pack House at Mohave Bnei Dror. Hooda also visited mango orchard with Cliff Lahav, a mango expert. Lahav told him that they are getting an average yield of about 30-35 tonne per hectare, while Haryana's yield varies between 8-12 tonne per hectare. Lahav, a visiting expert of mango in Haryana under Indo-Israel Project, asked Hooda to promote mango and litchi in north of Haryana in district of Yamunagar.
