Subject: India's Coffee Exports Up 29% To 28116 Tonne in July, 2011
India's coffee exports rose by 29% to 28,116 tonne in July this year on the back of robust global demand.

The country had exported 21,766.70 tonne of the brew in the corresponding year-ago period, Coffee Board data said.

"Coffee exports in July this year is 28,116 tonne," a Coffee Board official told PTI.

The country earned USD 80.35 million in foreign currency from exports of the brew in July, which in rupee terms stood at Rs 366.03 crore, the official said. The value realisation of coffee in the same month stood at Rs 1, 30,185 per tonne, the official added.

However, Coffee Board officials pointed out that on a month-on-month basis, shipments have come down.

Coffee exports declined by 30% to 28,116 tonne in July this year from 40,202 tonne in June, 2011.

According to industry analysts, a downturn in coffee exports was expected. Coffee exports have been declining due to low carry-over stocks and a drop in global prices, as the new crop has started arriving in the market.

Coffee exports grew in the January-May, 2011, period as India took advantage of global demand opportunities following production shortfalls in major growing countries Brazil and Columbia.

In the January-May, 2011, period, exports of the brew were up by 43 % at 1, 81,308 tonne, compared to 1, 27,160 tonne in the same period of the previous year.

India largely exports coffee to Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Russian Federation and Spain.
