Subject: India's oilmeals export rises 14.77% in 2008-09
MUMBAI: India’s export of oilmeals in 2008-09 has risen by 14.77 percent to record 8341 crore as against Rs 7109 crore in 2007-08. The export in first two quarters jumped due to excellent demand and FOB realization. However, in 3rd quarter got stagnated and in 4th quarter declined heavily due to decrease in production of meat and poultry worldwide following financial crisis and pronounced slowdown in economic activity affected consumer demand for livestock products.

Silver lining is the depreciation in rupee over last six months and VKGUY for soybean meal and castorseed meal has helped the exporters to maintain the export in quantity terms and better realization in rupee terms.

Vietnam ,South Korea and Japan - Major Importers of Oilmeals
Oilmeal import by Vietnam from India for the period April 2007 to March 2009 is reported at 1,510,973 tons compared to 1,708,053 tons last year, consisting of 1,311,303 tons of soybean meal, 54,660 tons of rapeseed meal and entire quantity of 144,696 tons of rice bran extraction.

Export of oilmeals to Middle East countries also nearly doubled during the year and reported at 427,614 tons compared to 230,725 tons . Europe has shown rise in import from India during April 2008 to March 2009.
The export from Kandla is reported at 3,141,987 tons (58%), followed by Mumbai including JNPT which handled 1,051,242 tons (19%), Bedi 554,382 tons (10%), Vizag handled 290,463 tons (5.4%), Mundra handled 202,197 tons (3.7%), Kakinada 93,058 tons (1.7%) and Kolkata 79,723 tons( 1.5%).

In last few months, export of oilmeals have declined sharply due to various reasons. SEAI has decided to step up promotional efforts to check the declining trend and planning to depute a Trade Delegation in 2nd half of May 2009 to South-East Asian countries viz. Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Phillippines and Indonesia to maintain India’s share in these markets and to develop new markets like Cambodia and Phillipines for Indian oilmeals.
