LCCI Demands To Halt Wool Exports To India .

LAHORE: The government should halt wool exports to India as an acute shortage of the raw material has been created in the local market and as a result the prices have doubled.

LCCI President, Shahzad Ali Malik issued this statement on Wednesday after meeting a delegation of carpet manufacturers including LCCI’s former president Shahid Hassan Sheikh, former Executive Committee members Sohail Shamsher Ali and Mohsin Banday.

Malik said that the sharp increase in the prices of wool would severely affect the local Hand knotted Carpet Industry which engages a labor force of more than two million skilled workers.

“The carpet industry in Pakistan was already fighting for its survival and now it is confronted with wool shortage and high prices. With a 100 percent increase in the price of the raw material, how can the industry compete in the international market?” he questioned.
