Maharashtra is placed 21st among states, for utilising funds under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development scheme (MPLADS, Lok Sabha), according to statistics.

Statistics released by the Union ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MSPI) show that Maharashtra made use of 89.66% of grants as on December 31, 2012, Karnataka again lagged behind compared to its neighbouring states.

According to statistics, Karnataka was pushed to the 24th place as it could make use of only 89.05% of grants.

Tamil Nadu which utilised 94.17% of the released funds was placed 8th on the list. Kerala stood at the 14th position by using 90.82% of funds. While Andhra Pradesh stood at the 13th place by utilising 91.23% of funds, Goa is ranked 11 with 92.38%.

Rajya Sabha: However, Karnataka’s performance was better in the utilisation of funds by its Rajya Sabha members.
While Goa topped the list by utilising 101.77% grants, Karnataka came in at the 18th position by making use of 87.18% of grants.


Tamil Nadu stood second with 94.58%. Andhra Pradesh secured only the 19th place with 85.41%. Kerala utilised 85.37% of funds released to secure the 20th place. Maharashtra took the 23rd position with 84.51%.

Karnataka’s Lok Sabha members spent only Rs865.01 crore of Rs963.18 crore available. However, its Rajya Sabha members utilised Rs360.56 crore of Rs425.17 crore funds released.
