Subject: Nigeria: Trade With India Hits U.S.$12.6 Billion
India High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mahesh Sachdev has said that the trade volume between Nigeria and India is now $12.6 billion.

He said India's investment in Nigeria as at 2010 was $5 billion.

Sachdev said this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Minister of State 1 for Foreign Affairs, Professor Viola Onwuliri to familiarize himself and his mission in the country with the new ministers.

He said India is the second largest Nigeria trade partner with over a hundred Indian companies in the country and the largest investor in the country.

"India is the first source of drug importation to Nigeria with companies ranging from shipping telecommunication, transportation and other areas that have contributed to Nigeria's economic prosperity and employment generation," Sachdev said.

He further said that 25 thousand Nigerians are trained by Indian professionals yearly and empowered to be absorbed into the country's economy in the auto sector and contribute to the development of the country.

He applauded the ministry for the strong role played in strengthening the relationship between both countries which led to the formation of 'India-Nigeria bio-national commission' which oversees the relationship between both countries.

Documents of the India biochemistry history and that of India Foreign Ministry were presented to the minister by the envoy.

In her response, Professor Onwuliri promised that the ministry will study the documents and see how Nigeria can take advantage of opportunity presented from the relationship between the two countries.
