HYDERABAD: Software exports from Andhra Pradesh are likely to grow by about 12.5 per cent at Rs 36,000 crore for the year ended 2009-10 as against Rs 32,000 crore achieved the previous year. The state is also targeting to increase its contribution to the overall IT exports in the country to 30 per cent from the current 15 per cent.

“We are yet to announce the IT & ITES exports, but they are estimated to be about Rs 36,000 crore. Currently, we are the fourth largest software exporter in the country and would like to reach the top position,” said K Ratna Prabha, Secretary, Department of Information Technology & Communication (ICT), Government of Andhra Pradesh.

She added that IT exports from the state contributed about 12 per cent until recently and have grown to contribute upto 15 per cent currently. “Karnataka alone contributes about 30 per cent to the overall IT exports. We hope to reach the third position by next year,” Prabha said.

Giving her keynote address at a conference organised on behalf of eIndia 2010, a global ICT expo that will be held between August 4 and August 6 here in the city, she said, “The IT & ITES sector provides direct employment to about 2.5 lakh and indirect employment to over 10 lakh within the state.”

Stating that the state was one of the frontrunners of e-governance initiatives, she said several other states followed suit to set up projects. And the much-awaited IT policy 2010-15 is expected to be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, the sixth edition of eIndia 2010 will have more than 150 exhibitors from across the globe and is likely to attract over 5,000 footfalls.
