Software exports to grow 7%:?Nasscom.

Subject: Software exports to grow 7%:?Nasscom
The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) expects India’s software exports to grow 4-7 per cent in 2009-10, according to president Som Mittal.

Speaking on the sidelines of Nasscom’s Diversity and Inclusivity Summit 2009, Mittal told reporters, “We are not going back to the old days.” He explained that Indian software exports, though recovering, were unlikely to return to the 30 per cent growth seen before the economic slowdown and also because of the higher revenue base. Last fiscal, the Indian IT/ITeS industry grew at about 16 per cent.

He, however, hoped things would change and reiterated the trade body’s vision of clocking export revenues of $175 billion by 2020. Apart from this, the Indian domestic industry, too, is expected to experience growth and record a four-fold increase in revenues from $12 billion in 2008 to $50 billion by 2020.

“To ensure that the target is achieved, we have to focus on newer geographies as about 50 per cent of the growth will come from unchartered territories. Also we have to make India a secured global destination by providing world class standard in governance and risk management as well as build urban infrastructure in tier II, III cities,” Mittal pointed out.

He also said gender inclusivity is gradually showing progress and multicultural diversity is becoming important for the industry.

Meanwhile, Wipro’s Jt CEO Suresh Vaswani said the company is pursuing large outsourcing deals in Europe. The firm also sees stronger demand for outsourcing in West Asia and Latin America, and has not been impacted by the Dubai debt crisis, he said. The firm is also expanding operations in China. “China will help tap business in that country as well as win clients in Japan,” Vaswani said.
