Uttar Pradesh benefits from Focus Product Scheme.

Subject: Uttar Pradesh benefits from Focus Product Scheme
A closer look at the authorisations and duty credits issued by the regional offices of the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) during the period April 2008 to February 2009 throws up some interesting facts.

The Focus Product Scheme seems to have benefitted Uttar Pradesh as Kanpur tops the list with 1,121 scrips, while Varanasi is fourth with 790 scrips, and Moradabad (352) sixth. Panipat (493) and Ludhiana (303) also have benefited under the scheme. Ludhiana (541) is third in the Focus Market scheme and Vadodara (112) fifth in the number of scrips issued.

Under the Vishesh Krishi Gram Udyog Yojana scheme, Kerala seems to have done better than Chennai (700 scrips) with Kochi (1,193 scrips) and Thiruvananthapuram (1,471). Other smaller offices to have done well are Varanasi (1,473), Bhopal (803), Rajkot (617), Madurai (679) and Jaipur (456).

Surat (2,168) is third in the number of EPCG (export promotion capital goods) authorisations issued just behind Mumbai (2,858) and Delhi (2,567), followed by Coimbatore (1,367) and Ludhiana (1,163).

Next to Mumbai (Rs 45,915 crore) and Delhi (Rs 16,857 crore), it is Vadodara that has issued advance authorisations for a value of Rs 9,575 crore, followed by Kolkata (Rs 7,049 crore) and Madurai (Rs 5,582 crore).

Expectedly, it is Delhi that has claimed maximum number of scrips (344) under the Served from India scheme, followed by Mumbai (186). Jaipur, which receives so many tourists, issued only 15 and Kolkata only eight.

I had expected offices in bigger cities to top the lists in number of authorisations/ scrips issued but that is not the case.
