Subject: India’s shrimp exports to US rise over 40% in August
US shrimp imports from India increased by over 40% year-on-year in August, according to the latest figures from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

In August 2015 India, the top foreign producer of shrimp for the US market, exported 14,754 metric tons. That rose to 20,815t during the same period in 2016.

The other top five shrimp exporting countries all also saw increases in their exports, with significant increases in exports from Thailand, which rose by 48.5% to 7,523t, and from China, which rose by nearly 76% to 3,697t.

Vietnam's exports increased by 48.5%, while those from Indonesia and Ecuador increased by 5.6% and 2.8% respectively.

Mexico was the only top exporting country which saw exports drop from 1,742t to 851t, a fall of over 50%.

The value of imported shrimp rose by nearly 35%, from $555.3 million to $411m. The average price per kilogram also rose from $8.75/kg to $9.47/kg, an 8.2% increase.
