Subject: Govt slaps anti-dumping duty on Vitamin-C imports from China
The government has imposed an anti-dumping duty of $3.99 per kg on import of Vitamin-C from China for a period of five years, after it found that "the domestic industry has suffered material injury."

The Finance Ministry has imposed provisional anti-dumping duty of $3.99 per kg on the imports of Vitamin-C from China, the Central Board Of Excise and Customs (CBEC) said in a notification here.

After reaching a conclusion that "the domestic industry has suffered material injury," the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) had recommended an anti-dumping duty on the import of the vitamin.

The duty would be effective for a period of five years, it said.

The DGAD, had earlier found that the vitamins were being imported from China, at below its normal value, which was causing material injury to the domestic industry.

Earlier, the government had imposed duty on several other products including yarns, fabrics, colour picture tubes, some aluminum products and chemicals.

According to a recent World Trade Organisation (WTO) report, India initiated the highest number of 42 anti-dumping investigations, followed by Brazil and China, between July and December, 2008.
