Subject: High duty forces Lamborghini to revise Indian sales strategy
MUMBAI: With the high import duty acting as a dampener on its sales, Lamborghini India is planning to revise its sales strategy in India, a senior company official told ET.

The central government had increased the import duty on high-end luxury cars by 25% to 100% in the last budget.

"The high duty structure has led to the cost of vehicles going up by 14.5%, and that has made us take a relook at our plans for the country," Pavan Shetty, head of India operations at Lamborghini, told ET. Lamborghini sold 17 cars last year, 17% more than the previous year.

The company, meanwhile, will step up its dealer network, especially in the south, where demand for Lamborghini cars is on the rise.

"We will add a new dealer in Chennai or Bangalore. We have been receiving enquiries from the southern states and there is huge potential there," Shetty said.

Lamborghini on Tuesday launched a special edition of the Gallardo in India, priced at 3.06 crore as part of its 50th year anniversary. The company has 6 special edition vehicles on sale in India.
