Subject: India's Gem & Jewellery Export body rolls out new insurance proposal
NEW DELHI : The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has proposed to provide insurance benefit scheme to members of the Council. The scheme will initially cover members of the Council, their employees and workers only. Upon successful trial, the scheme will be extended to workers and artisans of gems and jewellery industry.

The new scheme is proposed to be funded jointly by Council, Government, Trade and other stakeholders of the industry. The responsibility of enrolment of members under the scheme would be on the appointed broker or consultant. However, the Council through its various platforms would encourage members to enroll their employees under the scheme.

In order to assess the number of employees that may have to be provided assistance under the scheme and the approximate budget required for the same, GJEPC has decided to conduct a survey amongst its members. To evaluate the budget that should be earmarked for the first year, the Council has decided to circulate a questionnaire to members. Further, the body stated that the duly filled-in questionnaires must reach GJEPC before 20th March.

GJEPC proposes to introduce the insurance scheme to the organized and unorganized employees of the gems and jewellery sector wherein a health cover of Rs 50,000 or Rs 1,00,000 will be provided to a family of four members. The scheme also proposes a range of add on covers to the benefit of employees and workers.
