Subject: India’s imports from Japan, Malaysia up
Imports increased after Foreign Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Japan and Malaysia were implemented in 2011, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Commerce and Industry D Purandeshwari informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Imports from Japan rose by over 3 per cent to $12.5 billion while imports from Malaysia increased by 9 per cent to $10.43 billion in 2012-13.

“India has implemented Comprehensive Economic Co-operation Agreement with Malaysia in July, 2011,” she said adding that Indian exports to Malaysia grew to $4.44 billion in the last financial year from $3.97 billion in 2011-12.

Indian exports to Japan however, dropped to $6.26 billion in 2012-13 from $6.32 billion in 2011-12. “In trade pact negotiations, India is committed for a balanced and mutually beneficial outcome,” she said.
