Subject: Association urges Ananth Kumar to follow up on Polymer Park announcement for Mangaluru
MANGALURU: Canara Plastic Manufacturers and Traders Association (CPMTA) has hailed an announcement by union minister for chemicals and fertilizers Ananth Kumar about a move to set up Polymer Park in this coastal city. The association drew attention of the minister to the fact that there is adequate land available at Kuthethur near MRPL which KIADB has revoked from JESCO and this land can be utilized for setting up of the Polymer Park.

In a letter written to Ananth Kumar and released to the media here, B A Nazeer, president of CPMTA requested the minister to write to state government in this regard. With commissioning of polypropylene petrochemicals complex in the city at MRPL and further expansion of plant to manufacture polyethylene and other polymer products, setting up Polymer Park is crucial and also beneficial with respect of industrial development and job creation in this region.

Appreciating the fact that a leader from the state is in charge of the ministry concerned, Nazeer requested the minister to kindly take action to setup a polymer park here. Nazeer said the city is important from the point of view of trade, industry and commerce. Functioning of all weather New Mangalore Port and Mangaluru International Airport and also heavy industries like KIOCL, MCF, MRPL, BASF, and so on has given scope for development of industries.

According to India Today Survey, Mangaluru is the fastest growing non-metro in South India. Furthermore, the state government has selected Mangalore for development as smart city as announced by the union government. Plastic Industry in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts is a fast growing industry catering the needs of South Karnataka and South Kerala. With the setting up of Petrochemicals SEZ in the city, plastic industry and trade is set to grow faster.
