Tamil Nadu ranks first in number of operational SEZs |
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu ranks first in the number of operational Special Economic Zones in India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Madras Export Processing Zone, Development Commissioner A K Choudary said today.
"Tamil Nadu ranks first in the number of operational SEZs in the country. It is one of the leaders in SEZ with active public, private or joint sector participation", he said.
He was speaking in a meeting organised by the Tamil Nadu Association of SEZ Infrastructure Developers and Export Promotion Council for SEZ and Export Oriented Units.
Choudary said Tamil Nadu has 56 notified SEZs, of which 36 are operational with all the infrastructure and facilities.
Urging investors to utilise the Central Government's ambitious Make in India scheme, MEPZ, Joint Development Commissioner Swarna said the State was in the forefront in industrial development.
"The State presents a healthy balance between the manufacturing and IT industry with skilled manpower, urbanised structure and investors are urged to take up the opportunity", she said.
