Garment manufacturers to go on 2-day nationwide strike |
Around 200,000 garment manufacturers from New Delhi, Tripura, Kolkatta, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore have decided to go on a two-day nationwide strike, to protest against the budget proposal for 10% excise duty on readymade garments from tomorrow.
Rakesh Grover, President Intimate Apparel Association of India (IAAI) was quoted saying that the nationwide bandh could cause an estimated loss of around Rs. 5bn a day and affect the daily wage labourers, who work hand to mouth basis.
