India was the single biggest buyer of South African coal in August, lifting 1.3 million tonnes from Richards Bay Coal Terminal, 22% of total August 5.5 million tonnes exports.
Industry sources said that throughout this year India has taken 22% to 34% of South Africa's monthly exports, so far around 11 million tonnes.
South Africa is expected to export 58 million tonnes this year down from 61.8 million tonnes last year.
