Date: 17-04-2012
Subject: India-China Talks on Trade Dispute Resolution on Apr 16
Officials of India and China will discuss issues relating to anti-dumping and other trade disputes between the two countries during a meeting here tomorrow.

An Indian delegation headed by J S Dadoo, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, arrived here today for talks with their Chinese counterparts on a range of trade related bilateral issues.

This will be the third round of talks between the two countries during the past few years.

The talks would focus on anti-dumping measures as well as duties on various products besides steps to avoid trade conflicts between the two countries and a dispute resolution, Indian officials here told PTI.

The Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) under the Indian Commerce Ministry has said New Delhi had initiated 149 anti-dumping cases against China as on December last year.

This accounted for over half of such actions taken by India against foreign countries.

At present, 77 anti-dumping measures are in force against China, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia had said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha in December.

India has banned milk and chicken products from China after the melamine milk scandal as well as outbreak of SARS disease in China.

The talks between the two countries were aimed at deepening interaction between the two countries on trade issues and discussing mechanisms to reduce trade disputes.

Bilateral trade between the two countries has touched about USD 74 billion last year.

The two countries have set a target for USD 100 billion trade by 2015.
