MUMBAI, March 9 (Reuters) - India jeera futures ended lower Monday ahead of higher arrivals expected in coming days , analysts said.
"Prices went down on hopes of higher arrivals..Sentiment will remain pressured near-term but we continue to remain bullish in the long run," said Chowda Reddy, an analyst with Karvy Comtrade Ltd.
Adverse weather during the harvest season and a subsequent crop shortfall are seen pulling down India's production in 2009 by 15 percent, a Reuters poll of six top traders and exporters showed. [nBOM288351].
Production in 2009 is seen falling to 2.2 million bags of 60 kg each from 2.6 million bags in 2008, the poll showed.
Prices will also find support in the long term as overseas demand remains firm, analysts said.
"Exports are expected to improve in the coming weeks, as India would be the only source of jeera in the international markets until June," said Mehul Agrawal, an analyst with Sharekhan Commodities Ltd.
The spot market in Unjha remained closed on Monday for a festival holiday.
Following are the closing prices of jeera futures in rupees per 100 kg on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Ltd.
