On the first day of the two-day bilateral trade treaty review meeting held between India and Nepal on Thursday, India has decided to provide technical aid to Nepal for upgrading that country's food laboratories. The assistance will help improve the condition and technology of the food laboratories and harmonise the standards and accreditation systems. The meeting took place in Kathmandu, Nepal.
According to the Indian delegates, the country will provide technical aid to the central food laboratory and the laboratory of the Department of Standards and Metrology (DoSM) of Nepal. "The technical know-how will boost Nepal's export to India but the process will take time. The meeting agreed upon adopting various mechanisms to control the unauthorised trade between the South Asian neighbours," said an official at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS), Nepal.
The two countries signed the minutes of the agreements on Friday, when the meeting concluded. Further, the agreements were picked up at secretary-level talks and also at the commerce minister level before being signed as the new bilateral trade treaty. The Indo-Nepal Trade Treaty was signed in 1996. It has been renewed twice.
