July 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka's agriculture based processed food & packaging exhibition 'Pro Foods-Pro Pack & Agbiz 2012' will be held from 6-8 July 2012 at the BMICH in Colombo.

Pro Food Pro Pack 2012 is the most comprehensive agriculture based processed food and packaging exhibition with over 150 exhibiting companies from 20 countries showcasing more than 1,000 new products and services.

The exhibition is organized by the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association and endorsed by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture, National Agribusiness Council and Processed Food Development Initiative (pvt) Ltd.

As a sequel to its participation in the event last year, India is again participating in this year's exhibition with Indian companies participating under the banner of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) of India, a statement released by the Indian high commission in Colombo said.

The special attraction at the Indian Pavilion put up by APEDA in this exhibition will be the display of wines produced by seven wine companies from India whose samples would be available to prospective buyers from Sri Lanka.

India says its wine exports are growing and currently account for about 20 percent of the domestic market and the Sri Lankan companies will have the possibility to tie up with Indian wine companies to market Indian wines in Sri Lanka.

There are about fifty domestic and active wineries in India, mainly located in the States of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. The Industry has about 30 million liters production capacity.

Apart from wine, several other Indian companies participating in the exhibition will display their products of Coffee, Spices, Cashew, Vegetable Oil & other Food Stuffs, Frozen Foods, Processed Foods, Baby Products, Honey, Fruit Pulps & and Juices among others.

The exhibition will also cover areas such as Agriculture, Poultry, Livestock, Floriculture and many more income generating sectors.

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Industrial Development has set up a special pavilion to accommodate small & medium scale industrialists from the processed food and packaging industry to display their innovations at the exhibition.

The pavilion has been a tremendous success in the past and is a stepping stone for the SMI sector to meet trade buyers and introduce their products.
