Chennai, March 5 Tea exports increased 40 per cent and foreign exchange earned from them increased 45 per cent in January even as production rose 26 per cent.
The Tea Board said on its Web site that tea exports in January totalled 17 million kg (mkg). During the same period a year ago, 12.08 mkg were exported.
The shipments fetched Rs 212 crore against Rs 146 crore, while the realisation in January was Rs 124.69 a kg against Rs 121.38 a year ago.
Production during the period increased to 27.09 mkg against 21.5 mkg, according to the board. Break-up of the details on production and exports were unavailable.
