Subject: Several sectors concerned over supply from China: Sitharaman on coronavirus impact
NEW DELHI: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday stated that several sectors are concerned over supply from China amid rising fears of economic impact due to coronavirus outbreak.

The finance minister also said that concerns are there about the import and export situation along with supply of raw material from Beijing, adding that concerns have been expressed by the representative of pharma, solar and chemical industries about some disruption due to the virus.

Addressing the media after a special interactive session on 'contextual challenges & opportunities in supply chain of export and imports', Sitharaman further mentioned that the ministry will announce some measures to deal with the impact of Coronavirus outbreak on the domestic industry shortly.

The minister further added that she would hold a meeting with the secretaries of different ministries on Wednesday and then announce steps to deal with the situation in consultation with the Prime Minister's Office.

"There are no concerns about price rise so far due to Coronavirus," Sitharaman said, adding it is too early to talk about the impact of Covid-19 outbreak on the Make in India initiative.

She also mentioned that there were no reports of shortage of medicines or medical equipment, instead the pharma industry is asking for lifting of ban on exports of certain items.
