Rallis India, Star Bazar to add pomegranates to their basket of branded fruits |

PUNE: After having entered the branded grapes segment last year, Rallis India, the crop care company from Tata enterprise, along with group company Star Bazar will launch branded pomegranates in March this year.
"We are also evaluating how to make entry into the export markets," said KR Venkatadri, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Rallis India Ltd. Rallis had launched its branded grapes towards the end of the season last year.
Tata group follows corporates like Mahindra ShubhLabh and Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Ltd, which have already entered the rapidly growing segment of branded fruits.
Vekatadri was speaking after the launch of AMPLUS and AMPLUS Active, a microbial bio product, which helps enhance the soil fertility. The products is from Norway headquartered Agrinos, which has partnered with Rallis India for its marketing in India.
DR Wagner, chief executive officer, Agrinos AS said, "About 30% of the world soils are degraded. When we launched this product in Texas in 2013 on 0.5% of the sugarcane crop, its usage increased to 10% of the total area under sugarcane the next year."
Agrinos was working with Rallis for last two years to develop and test the product for Indian conditions. The product has been marketed in Mexico from last 15 years, while Agrinos acquired it in 2009.
Indian crop care market is estimated to be Rs 12,000 crore to Rs 13,000 crore, while Rallis, which gets its 80% turnover from crop care, had posted net profit of Rs 153 crore and revenues of Rs 1726 crore in 2013-14.
