Subject: Boeing’s ‘cooperation’ with AI will continue: Keskar
NAGPUR: Dinesh Keskar, head of the American aircraft maker Boeing's Asia operations, was assured full support by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for starting the aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) depot built by the company in Mihan-SEZ.

Keskar told TOI that as far as building the MRO is concerned, Boeing has done its job and handed it over to Air India which would be running the facility. However, it will remain with Boeing till it secures permission to operate the MRO from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). "The cooperation shall continue further, though Air India shall remain owner of the MRO," said Keskar.

The taxiway connecting the MRO also needs some final touches. "There have been some issues with the leveling of the taxiway which are now being addressed," he said. The taxiway is being built by the MADC. In absence of a regular runway, the aircraft will reach the MRO through a 2 km long taxiway.

Keskar also urged the government to start courses related to aviation in the city to churn out professionals for the industry. Fadnavis also apprised Keskar about government's plans to set up institutes like Indian Institute of Management (IIM), All India Institute of Medicinal Sciences (AIIMS) and International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in the Mihan-complex.
