INDORE: Developing Smart city on non-processing area (open area with no industry) of Indore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is awaiting Centre's approval. De-notification of 300 acre land for the smart city project has been sent to the Centre.
SEZ development commissioner Ishwar Singh said, "The Smart City will be a self-sustained township with modern infrastructure and amenities, including residential and commercial properties, schools, clinics, and banking facilities. The feasibility study has been done and the state government has already approved the detailed project report (DPR). Centre's approval for de-notification of the land is awaited."
300 acres of land out of 276 hectares in non-processing zone of Indore SEZ has been identified for developing Smart City. "Once the Centre de-notifies land tenders would be released to select developer," said an official of Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (AKVN).
This year, the state government had given its approval to detailed project report (DPR) and applied to Centre for de-notification of non-processing area. The developer will be shortlisted through a national open tender who will prepare master plan of the smart city. After approval, work will begin and developer will get lease rights for next 30 years.
Currently, 47 units are operational in SEZ and around six units are under construction. In this financial year export from SEZ in Pithampur has gone up by 35%. Turnover of SEZ in first quarter of the year is around Rs 1,665 crore as compared to Rs 1,233 crore in corresponding period of last year.
