Subject: Dahej effluent discharge pipeline now fully operational
BHARUCH: The effluent discharge pipelines from sump house carrying treated effluent of Dahej and Vilayat industrial estates in to deep sea became fully operational on Saturday late evening. The lines carrying 60 million liter per day (MLD) industrial waste was damaged on Thursday forcing the industrial units to cut down production.

The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has intimated all concern industrial units of Dahej Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Vilayat industrial estate to discharge only 50% of effluent initially, which was likely to be increased gradually to hundred percent by Saturday late night.

According to sources, GIDC has also chalked out action plan under which another pump of higher capacity will be mounted on a height for speedy dewatering. During the present crisis majority of the time was taken for dewatering the pump house filled with effluent. This was because of absence of stand-by pump.

"This was an eye opener for us therefore it has been decided that at all sump houses that carry effluent will have stand-by pump for dewatering," said a GIDC official.

M A Hania, president Dahej Industries Association said, "The industrial unit can now take a sigh of relief. They can now resume production in full capacity."

Bharath Kumar, president Grasim Industries Ltd, in Vilayat Industrial Estate said "We were badly affected, but now we have started our production activities. It will take few days to become fully operational."
