Mihan goes without power for fifth day.

NAGPUR: The ambitious Mihan-SEZ faced a blackout for the fifth consecutive day on Monday. Abhijeet Group, which has set up a 240MW power plant for exclusive supply to the area, had discontinued the connection on April 17 citing losses.

Following a directive by the high court as well as the power regulator Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), state-owned power utility MSEDCL is in the process of taking over the job.

However, though Abhijeet Group has allowed MSEDCL to use its existing infrastructure to supply power, the service hasn't been resumed.

A source said Abhijeet Group had on Sunday evening drawn power from the MSEDCL's grid and charged its transmission network in Mihan. Now, the next step, to take power to the units' doorsteps, has to be done by the MSEDCL.

A senior MSEDCL officer said the modalities are being worked out and power supply will resume soon. However, the delay has left investors having the units in Mihan fuming. "It is strange that despite the court directives, MSEDCL has failed to resume the supply. All it has to do is use the existing network laid down by Abhijeet Group and begin the supply," said Nikhil Bhojwani of Mihan Investors Association.
