The foremost clothing lobby in India – Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has demanded abolition of customs duty on imports of manmade fibres in the upcoming union budget.
The Chairman of AEPC, Mr Sakhtivel handed over a memorandum in this regard to the finance ministry. Currently, manmade fibres attract 5 percent customs duty.
AEPC has also sought duty-free import of specialised machinery for producing manmade fibre apparels.
AEPC has demanded abolition of duty on manmade fibres to increase domestic consumption as demand for manmade fibre garments is there throughout the year in global markets.
