Ban on Cotton exports |

Cotton export are placed in restricted category and permitted under license vide DGFT Notification no. 44/2009-14, dated 21.05.2010. An export duty of Rs. 2500 per tonne on raw cotton has been imposed vide Notification nos. 43/2010-Custom dated 9.4.2010. This information was given by the Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today to a question raised by Shri B. S. Gnanadesikan.
The Minister further stated that to address the important issue of steep increases in prices of cotton, Government initiated several policy interventions which include inter alia an export duty on raw cotton and placing exports of raw cotton under the licensed category.
