China to allow import of Basmati rice from India |
China has allowed the imports of basmati rice from India. This comes as a big boost to Indian exporters for exporting 4.5 million tonnes of aromatic rice to huge markets of of 1.3 billion Chinese population. This was stated by the Indian Ambassador to China S Jaishankar to media in Beijing yesterday.
China had banned imports of several Indian agricultural products, including basmati rice, due to the issues of pest control and monitoring of quarantine pests in processing and storage houses in India. The approval came after Chinese official bodies conducting necessary tests.
The Indian Embassy is planning to conduct a publicity campaign to push basmati rice into the Chinese markets.
