Exempt asafoetida from import duty.

Madurai, Jan 27 The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association (TFMA) has made an appeal for the exemption of asafoetida from the levy of import duty. In a memorandum submitted to Mr Anand Sharma, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, the Association President, Mr J.P. Jeyaprakasam, said that the spice used as an ingredient in the preparation of food items, is mainly dependent on imports and attracted a very high import duty at 36.3 per cent
