GM Cars to get Expensive by 1-2 percent by January 2012.

Date: 07-12-2011
Subject: GM Cars to get Expensive by 1-2 percent by January 2012
General Motors will hike its car prices by as much as 1-2 percent from January 2012. The decision comes as car makers who depend on imports are facing the heat of the depreciating rupee value. Hence, in order to peg their mounting losses GM has decided to hike prices of their cars come new year. The car maker has already hiked the price of the Beat diesel hatchback, though. According to the car maker, the Beat diesel was available at an introductory price and hence the hike of Rs 15,000. As far as other models in the line-up are concerned, the prices of the cars will go up from January 2012.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors has also announced a hike in its car prices by 3 percent from January 1st, 2012. While other manufacturers importing components from overseas will soon follow. India’s premier car maker Maruti Suzuki is also mulling a price hike come new year. Having said that, car makers are offering attractive schemes on petrol cars. Petrol powered car sales have slumped greatly after the petrol price hike which was quite inevitable after the government decided to deregulate petrol prices.

Hence, those buyers who are in the market for a petrol car can grab the opportunity to get the best deal for their new car. However, if you are planning to buy a car in 2012. Let’s be honest, prices of the cars are set to go up even though most car makers are lining-up new models. The Delhi Auto Expo will see new cars being showcased/launched for the Indian market and the hike in prices might have an adverse effect on buying decisions of customers.
