Govt allows 153 tonnes of pulses export to Maldives till FY14 |
New Delhi, May 31 (PTI) India has allowed exports of 153 tonnes of pulses to Maldives till 2013-14 through trading-firm MMTC.
"73 MTs of pulses for the year 2012-13 and 80 MTs of pulses for the year 2013-14 to Maldives would be permitted to be exported through MMTC," Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.
As per the third advance estimates of crop production for 2011-12, pulses output is estimated at 17.02 million tonnes.
Pulses exports are banned since June 2006 to augment the domestic supply and check prices. India is the largest consumer of the foodgrain.
The country imports pulses to meet the domestic production shortfall of 3-4 million tonne.
Pulses output was stagnated at around 15 million tonne for some time, but crossed 17 million tonne in the last two years, due to hike in support price.
