Govt allows duty free sample import up to Rs 3 L by exporters |
New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) The government today tripled the limit for duty free import of samples by all exporters to Rs 3,00,000, a move that will help traders innovate their product lines.
Earlier only gems and jewellery sector was allowed duty free import of up to Rs 3,00,000 and, for the rest the limit was Rs 1,00,000.
"All the exporters will be able to import duty free samples up to Rs 3,00,000," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a public notice.
The move will help exporters in product innovation and diversification, Fieo Director General Ajay Sahai said.
Generally, exporters are given samples by their buyers for replication. As per the latest data, India''s merchandise exports rose 21.3 per cent to USD 18 billion in October over the year-ago period.
