Handicrafts Exporters Bag Orders Worth Rs 900 Crore At Fair |
Indian handicrafts exporters received orders worth Rs 900 crore during a four-day fair here that saw 4,300 buyers from 32 countries in attendance.
The fair, which concluded yesterday, saw buyer enquiries from countries like the US, the UK, Japan, Germany and France despite the slowdown in Western markets.
They showed interest in Indian handicrafts including metalware, imitation jewellery and wood products, according to the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).
"Overseas buyers evinced keen interest in design elements anchored on trends interpreting various inspirations and tendencies,"it said.
Handicraft items from different parts of the country, including the North-East and Jammu and Kashmir, attracted visitors, the council said.
During 2010-11, the country's handicrafts shipments jumped by about 26 per cent year-on-year to USD 2.3 billion
