Ind, Mauritius to discuss investment potential in textiles.

New Delhi: Mauritius will discuss this month the investment potential in that county's textile sector with Indian industry leaders.

"The Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection Minister of Mauritius would be visiting India (this month) during which he would discuss the possibilities for Indian investment in the textiles sector with captains of Indian industry," a joint statement of Textiles Ministry of India and Mauritius said Friday.

To strengthen ties in the textiles sector, India would offer training to 1,000 workers, 35 scholarship programmes and develop 10 fully compliant apparel factories.

Last month, five MoUs were inked between the two countries to enhance cooperation in the sector, it said.
An MoU between Apparel Export Promotion Council and Enterprise Mauritius was inked to establish cooperation in compliance standards, enhance competitiveness of the apparel industry and capacity building in export promotion.

Northern India Research Association (NITRA) and Mauritius Standards Bureau signed another pact to establish cooperation in the field of standardization, quality assurance, accreditation of laboratories and proficiency in testing.

Besides a pact was also signed between NITRA and National Productivity and Competitiveness Council for cooperation in the field of productivity and quality improvement.

It said that during the state visit of the Prime Minister of Mauritius to India, an MoU for strengthening collaboration in textiles sector was signed in February last year.

The bilateral trade between the countries stood at USD 1.43 billion in 2011-12.
