India exports record volume of cardamom |
Kochi: Cardamom exports touched the all-time high of 3,900 tonne, valued at R308.32 crore, during April-January this fiscal, the Spices Board said on Friday.
The increase in quantity terms was 390% and 237% in value terms, it said in a statement. Exports of Cardamom (small) was 795 tonne valued at R91.56 crore in the previous year.
Cardamom (large) exports touched 710 tonnes at R52.72 crore against the 645 tonne (R34.69 lakh). The unit value of cardamom (large) increased from R537.87 per kg to R742.61 per kg during the period.
A total of 4,36,175 tonne of the spices, valued at R7,849.47 crore were exported during the period which means the total earning is equal to $1,647.39 million. This shows an increase of 47% in rupee terms and 40% in terms of dollar when compared to the total export in April-January in the previous year. In 2011, about 4,32,115 tonnes of spices were exported valued at R5,353.95 crore ($1,178.72 million).
