India Extends Anti-dumping Duty On Dry Cell Battery Imports |
The Indian government has extended the anti-dumping duty on dry cell battery imports from China up to mid-April next year
This is because the Finance Ministry has now extended the validity of the existing levy following a sunset review initiated by the anti-dumping directorate in the Commerce Ministry in March this year.
The Finance Ministry had last imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on dry cell battery imports from China in April 2007, which was valid for a period of five years. Now this stands extended to April 12, 2013.
The Association of Indian Dry Cell Manufacturers had, on behalf of the domestic industry, sought a review and continuation of anti-dumping duty on dry cell battery imports from China.
The dry cell battery has a broad spectrum of use and is primarily used in flashlights, transistors, toys, wall and table clocks, Walkman units, tape recorders, remotes, cameras and other electronic equipment.
This anti-dumping duty will, however, not be applicable to alkaline and rechargeable batteries.
