India Posts 14% Rise In Handicraft Exports To $204 mn During Apr 2011 |
The handicraft exports have surged by 14% to $204 million during April this year with the help of surging demand from the US and European markets. The requirement has also started to emerge in other markets such as Middle East, Latin America and Africa.
In April 2010, the exports was at $179.9 million, stated the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) data. The exports growth is expected to continue in the present fiscal also.
Both US and Europe make up for nearly 60% of India's handicraft shipments. The items which have posted maximum growth in the exports level are wood wares (26.9%), imitation jewellery (21%), shawls as art wares (19%), miscellaneous handicrafts (15 %) and art metal wares (13.49%).
During April-March 2010-11, the handicrafts exports have witnessed 26% rise to $2.3 billion as compared to the last fiscal.
