India Pulses Imports Seen at 1.66 mt in Apr-Oct 2011 |
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India's pulse imports during April to October 2011 is seen at 1.66 million tons against 1.63 million tons same period last year, acording to Rajiv Agarwal, Secretay, consumer affairs.
The country's import may increase as the pulse production in India is likely to decline on account of lack of adequate rainfall by 5-7% to 17 million tons against the earlier estimates of estimate of 18.5 million tons for 2011-12.
In 2010-11, India's pulses imports dropped 26.1 percent to 2.77 million ton.
India imports arount 3 million tons to meet the domestic requirement of 21 million tons.
