Subject: India’s apparel exports surge in February
The latest export figures released by Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) for the month of February 2012, reveals that India’s apparel exports have reached $12,145 million in the month of February in the fiscal 2011-12. It’s grown at 18.9 per cent against the corresponding period last year. In February 2012, exports increased by 1.5 per cent against the corresponding month last year. In rupee terms, exports have increased by 9.8 per cent in February 2012 over the same month of the previous FY.

In the last financial year, exports had increased by 4.2 per cent from the previous FY 2009-10 and totaled to $11,163 million in April-March 2010-11. Apparel imports of the United States witnessed an increase of 9.4 per cent in January 2012 from the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to $6.7 billion. For the same period, US imports of apparel from India increased by 2 per cent to $308.6 million in January 2012 against $3.2.8 million in January 2011.

EU’s apparel import accounted for $94,317 million for the year 2011 with an increase of 14 per cent over the same period of the previous year. India’s export to EU for the year 2011 amounted to $6,462 million with an increase of 15.4 per cent. EU’s apparel import accounted for $94,317million for the year 2011 with an increase of 13.82 per cent over the same period of the previous year. India’s export to EU amounted to $6,462 million with an increase of 15.45 per cent for the same period.

Canada’s imports of apparel from India from January to December 2011 accounted for $3,13.7 million with an increase of 14.2 per cent as compared to corresponding period last year. Its total import of apparel from the world for January to December 2011 amounted to $8,677.1 million with an increase of 15 per cent against January to December 2010.
