India's Coffee Exports Up 43% In Jan/May 2011 |
India exported about 647,000 60-kg bags of coffee in May 2011, up from some 496,000 bags in May 2010, Coffee Board of India data showed. Arabica exports rose 36.2% to 116,200 bags from 85,300 in May 2010, while robusta shipments climbed 23.8% to 386,000 bags. Instant coffee exports also increased to 143,800 bags from 99,600 shipped in the same month last year.
This brings total exports for the 2011 calendar year through May to 3.022 mln bags, up 42.6% on the year driven by firm overseas demand. Arabica exports rose 44.9% to 628,600 bags, while robusta shipments jumped 48.9% to 1.686 mln bags. Total instant coffee exports increased to 704,800 bags from 551,400 over the same period.
