India's exports to the Arab countries grew by 54.7% during January-June 2011 over the year-ago period, Parliament was informed today.
The country's overall exports during April-June 2011 grew by 45.7% over the same period last year, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
"The exports to the Arab countries have also shown a growth of 54.7% during January to June 2011 over the corresponding period of the previous year," he said.
Replying to another query in the Lok Sabha, Scindia said trade across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir was suspended during April and May 2011 due to certain demands from the traders which included infrastructure and taxation issues.
"... the tax issue has been resolved in favour of the traders. The infrastructure issues are also being addressed," he added.
Asked whether there is a demand from traders to enhance the trade across the LoC between India and Pakistan, the minister said, "Yes".
During the meeting of foreign ministers of India and Pakistan held on July 27, 2011, few decisions were taken aimed at increasing the trade flow between the two nations.
The decisions include both the countries will provide adequate facilities at the trade facilitation centres on each side and increased the number of trading days to four from from two in a week.
